Summary and Learning Objectives

Summary

Gratitude and appreciative thinking are powerful predictors of well-being, human flourishing, and spiritual growth. This workshop is designed for psychologists, licensed mental health professionals, medical personnel, and ministry leaders seeking to enhance their knowledge and application of gratitude as a transformative practice. Participants will review the faith-based and scientific foundations of human flourishing, drawing on early Judeo-Christian thought, philosophy, and over twenty-five years of global research. Grounded in both Biblical teaching and scientific research, participants will explore how gratitude and appreciation can console during difficult times, cultivate contentment, inspire hope, and promote overall well-being. Participants will recognize how a gratitude mindset can reshape the brain, reduce stress, improve sleep, increase resilience, strengthen relationships, and foster positive emotions such as joy and happiness. Attendees will learn how to implement practical strategies for cultivating gratitude as both a state and a trait to enhance client and patient outcomes and personal well-being, along with helpful assessments like the Gratitude Assessment (GQ-6).

Learning Objectives

Describe the significance of gratitude and the impact of faith-based and scientific research on well-being, resilience, and human flourishing, with specific consideration given to the assessment of gratitude with clients and patients.

Apply models to cultivate a gratitude mindset, noticing and affirming the goodness in life to counter habitual negativity and strengthen connection with clients and patients.

Implement practical, personalized gratitude habits and daily spiritual practices for clients to enhance contentment, well-being, and resilience, even in challenging circumstances.
