Summary and Learning Objectives

Summary:

In a rapidly changing world, coaches encounter individuals and organizations at critical junctures where conflict and transformation intersect. This intensive workshop equips Christian coaches and ministry leaders with practical frameworks and competencies to guide clients through complex conflicts while supporting them during organizational and personal change. Participants will explore how unresolved tensions amplify resistance to change, and how inadequately managed change can trigger conflict. This workshop draws from Dr. John Townsend’s Growth Model, emphasizing the foundational capacities of attachment, healthy separation, adult authority, and integration as pathways to wholeness and growth in coaching practice. Coaches learn to recognize how conflict and change create opportunities to deepen self-awareness, build resilience, and develop greater capacity for healthy relationships. Through case studies, role-play scenarios, and practical skill-building, participants will develop competence in: identifying personal and organizational triggers, coaching clients through emotional responses to change, facilitating productive conversations about conflict, and sustaining change momentum through ongoing support.

Learning Objectives:

Integrate conflict and change frameworks to develop comprehensive coaching strategies that address both relational dynamics and emotional resistance.

Apply core coaching competencies (self-awareness, listening, curiosity, authentic communication) to help clients identify triggers, examine conflict patterns, and navigate transitions with resilience.

Assess readiness for change and design interventions that support clients’ spiritual formation and relational maturity aligned with the Townsend Growth Model.

Demonstrate how to coach clients through emotional dimensions of conflict and change, including normalizing resistance, managing stress responses, and facilitating constructive conversations.

Develop action plans to implement workshop concepts with clients and within organizations.
